Hello everyone!

My family and I are in the process of relocating to the Space Coast. We are avid boaters and happy to be returning to the great state of FL. We left the Orlando area (Conway) in 2012 and have since lived in Charleston, SC (highly recommended) and most recently Dayton, OH (not so much recommended for boating!).

We are shopping for a canal home and looking in the Diana Shores neighborhood (Merritt Island), but I am concerned about the time it would take to get to open running water (Banana or Indian Rivers). I have no problem with idle cruising as I am a strong believer that nobody should be on the water if they are in a rush, but mostly worried about those awesome afternoon thundershowers that pop-up in the summertime.

Apologize if this question has been asked before on this site, but I did search and couldn't find the answer, so I will ask:

How does it take to idle from Diana Shores out to the open Banana River (via the Barge Canal)?

This looks like a great site with useful info and we can't wait to join the community! Thanks in advance for your help.
