What is a Blog? Please read this before posting a new blog..

There appears to be some confusion on the difference between forum / discussions and blogs. In general, a forum/discussion is intended for two way conversations and/or questions and a blog can be thought of as more of a one way journal that can be commented on.

A blog (short for weblog) is a personal online journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. They are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Blogs are defined by their format: a series of entries posted to a single page in reverse-chronological order. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or reflect the purpose of the Web site that hosts the blog. Topics sometimes include brief philosophical musings, commentary on Internet and other social issues, and links to other sites the author favors, especially those that support a point being made on a post. The author of a blog is often referred to as a blogger.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketches (sketchblog), videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), audio (podcasting), which are part of a wider network of social media. Micro-blogging is another type of blogging, one which consists of blogs with very short posts.

Yes, there has been some confusion on what a blog is and what a forum discussion is. It has been improving. In my opinion some great examples of blogs for this site that would be- fishing reports, writing about an experience at an island, blogging about a trip somewhere, writing about a repair or restoration of a boat, explaining what happen on ski island this past Sunday evening, etc... These are also good topics that can be followed-up or edited in the future with updates. A "this weekend we went to ... and this happened ... and here are some photos" would be best. There are many members that take some incredible trips with their boats and their family that we would like to hear about !

I don't want to restrict the site and am trying hard to keep it rather open. We are most concerned with spam or advertising of other businesses, services, or products. In fairness to our paying advertisers, we have a strict policy against advertising/business blogs, advertising comments, business related profile images, and business profile names, unless the member is a current paying advertiser. Please contact us if someone is interested in our advertising/sponsorship options.

We would recommend that blogs would be a great area for Captains to do their own fishing reports!
